Kelsey has been practicing in Texas since 2017 and has been a board-approved supervisor since 2025.
Clinical background: My clinical experience includes supporting adults through life transitions, relationship and career changes, identity shifts, and other challenges that impact mental well-being. I also have a particular interest in working with current and former athletes and fitness-minded individuals navigating changes in identity, motivation, and routine.
Approach to supervision: I see supervision as a space to grow, ask questions, and develop confidence in your clinical work. I value Associates who are open to feedback, willing to reflect on their work, and committed to continued learning. How Our Supervision Works
Documentation. We keep your supervision log current and complete your board paperwork promptly. Your hours are your livelihood, and late documentation is the most avoidable reason Associates get held up.
Format. All supervision is held online by secure video. Sessions run 1 hour, and we offer both individual supervision and small group supervision, or a combination of the two depending on what suits your schedule and budget.
Frequency. Scheduled weekly, providing consistent support and opportunities to discuss clinical work, cases, and professional development. Texas BHEC requires LPC Associates to receive a minimum of four hours of supervision each month, which may be met through individual, dyad, or group supervision.
In a session. We work through your live caseload, including case conceptualization, treatment planning, ethical questions and anything that has been sitting uncomfortably with you since your last session. You bring the material. If you arrive without a specific case in mind, we will find something useful in what you have been carrying anyway.
When things are hard. Most Associates hit a stretch where a case is not moving, a client is difficult, or they wonder whether they are any good at this. That is normal and it is exactly what supervision is for. You will not be judged for bringing it.
Texas LPC Licensure Requirements
To move from LPC Associate to fully licensed LPC in Texas, you need to complete a set number of supervised experience hours, a minimum portion of which must be direct client contact, over a minimum period of time and with a set amount of supervision each month.
Total supervised experience: Complete 3,000 hours of supervised experience.
Direct client counseling: At least 1,500 hours must involve direct client counseling.
Minimum timeframe: The 3,000 hours must be completed over a minimum of 18 months.
Monthly supervision: Receive at least 4 hours of direct supervision each month.
Individual vs. group: No more than 50% of required supervision hours may be completed through group supervision.
Changing supervisors: If you need to change supervisors, BHEC requires the appropriate forms to formally update your supervisory relationship.
A few things worth knowing:
Supervision hours: Texas requires at least 4 hours of direct supervision each month. These hours can be divided throughout the month based on an agreement between the Associate and supervisor.
Individual vs. group: Associates may receive supervision through individual or group sessions, but no more than 50% of the required supervision hours may come from group supervision.
Direct client hours: Only the actual time spent providing counseling services directly to clients counts toward the required 1,500 direct counseling hours.
Changing supervisors: If you need to change supervisors, BHEC requires an updated Supervisory Agreement Form and documentation to formally end and establish the supervisory relationship.
Keep good records: Accurate documentation matters. Keep track of your supervision and experience hours, stay current with required forms, and communicate with your supervisor if you have questions about what counts toward your hours.

We keep the number of Associates we supervise deliberately low, for the same reason we keep our clinical practice small. You should be able to reach your supervisor when something urgent comes up.

If your primary focus falls outside what we work with, we would rather tell you and point you somewhere better suited than take you on and supervise you thinly.
Virtual Supervision, Anywhere in Texas
All of our supervision is held online, which means you can work with us wherever you are practicing.
That matters most if you are somewhere with few board-approved supervisors to choose from. Associates in smaller cities and rural counties often end up settling for whoever is available within driving distance. You should be able to choose a supervisor on fit and specialty rather than on geography.
It also matters if your caseload is full. No travel time means supervision fits around a working day rather than costing you two client slots.
Sessions are held on a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform. You need a private space, a device with a camera and a reliable connection.

You need a supervisor approved by the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council, which means an LPC who holds the supervisor designation. Most Associates find one through their employer, a professional network, or by searching directly. Look at specialty, availability, cost and format, and always have an introductory conversation before committing.

Rates vary considerably across the state. Ours are $80.00 for individual supervision and $55.00 for group. Some employers cover supervision costs, and some supervisors offer reduced rates for Associates working in community or non-profit settings. Always confirm what is included before you sign an agreement.

Yes. Virtual supervision is accepted for Texas LPC Associates, which means you can work with a supervisor anywhere in the state rather than only within driving distance. All of our supervision is held online by secure video.

To become a fully licensed LPC in Texas, Associates must complete 3,000 hours of supervised experience, including at least 1,500 hours of direct client counseling, over a minimum of 18 months. An LPC Associate holds the qualification and is practicing under supervision while completing the required supervised experience hours. An LPC has completed those hours and practices independently. The clinical work is similar, but an Associate must be supervised and cannot practice without a board-approved supervisor.

Yes. Associates change supervisors for all sorts of reasons, including moving job, a supervisor retiring, or the fit simply not working. There is a board process to follow and your hours already completed are not lost. If you are considering a change, we can talk you through how it works.

Individual supervision is one to one with your supervisor. Group supervision involves several Associates together, which is usually cheaper and adds the benefit of hearing how others handle their cases. The board sets rules on how much of each can count toward your hours.

A case you are stuck on, a clinical decision you are unsure about, or an ethical question that has been sitting with you. If you arrive without something specific, that is fine. There is almost always something worth working through in what you have been carrying.

Yes. Many of the Associates we supervise are employed elsewhere or building an independent caseload. Supervision is separate from employment, and you do not need to work at ThinkSpot for us to supervise you.

It depends on how quickly you accumulate direct client contact hours, which comes down to your caseload. Full-time Associates typically finish faster than those working part time, and there is a minimum period set by the board regardless of how quickly you accrue hours.
