Individual therapy is one-to-one work between you and a licensed therapist. There is no group, no audience, and nothing you have to be ready to say before you arrive.
Sessions run for 50 minutes. Most people start weekly and move to every other week as things settle. Some come for a specific issue and finish in a few months, others stay longer because having the space is useful in itself. Both are completely normal, and there is no set length you are expected to commit to.
Your first session is mostly about your therapist understanding what brings you in and what you would like to be different. You will not be asked to relive anything you are not ready to talk about.
After that, sessions tend to move between talking through what has come up recently and building practical skills you can use between appointments. The pace is yours to set.
What individual counseling gives you that few other things do is a consistent hour with someone who knows your history, is not involved in your life, and has no agenda beyond helping you make sense of it.
What Individual Therapy Involves
Session Length: 53 - 60 minutes
Typical Frequency: weekly - biweekly
Formats Available: In-office & telehealth
Cost range: $75.00 - 166.00
What People Bring to Individual Therapy
Everyone arrives for their own reasons. These come up most often:
Trauma therapy and EMDR for difficult past experiences
Anxiety therapy for worry, panic and social anxiety
Depression therapy for low mood and exhaustion
Life transitions such as a career change, divorce, parenting or a health diagnosis
Stress from work, study or caregiving
Anger management therapy for reactions that feel out of proportion
Self-esteem and self-doubt
Adjusting after a major change
Relationship and family strain
Not sure which of these fits, or whether any of them do? That is a perfectly good reason to book a first session. Working out what is going on is part of the process.
How We Work
-
Evidence-based.
Grounded in approaches with real research behind them, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR and trauma-informed practice, available in person or online.
-
Personalized.
Shaped around your goals, your background and your pace rather than a fixed program.
-
Supportive.
A space where you can say the thing you have not said out loud yet, without judgment.
-
Practical.
Skills and strategies you can actually use between sessions, not just insight.
-
Consistent.
Our therapists stay, which means you are not passed between clinicians. You build a working relationship with one person who knows your history.
In Person or Online
-
In our offices.
Individual therapy sessions at our Plano office, serving Dallas, Frisco and Carrollton, and at our Houston office in the Uptown and Galleria area.

-
Online across Texas.
Video sessions with the same licensed therapists, from wherever you are. Sessions run the same length and are covered by most insurance plans at the same rate as an office visit. Useful if you are working around a busy schedule, live somewhere without a nearby practice, or simply feel more at ease talking from home.

Counseling in Spanish
Therapy works better in the language you think in. We offer individual counseling in Spanish, with culturally responsive care from clinicians who understand the context you are speaking from, not just the words.
Ask for Imelda Vasquez, Emely Zuniga or Luis Herandez when you book.

The People You Would Be Working With
Every therapist here is licensed in Texas, and each brings a specific area of focus. When you book, we match you based on what you need rather than on who happens to be free.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Individual therapy is one-to-one counseling between you and a licensed therapist. Sessions usually run 50 minutes and focus on whatever you bring, from a specific difficulty like anxiety to a more general sense of being stuck. It is sometimes called individual counseling or one-to-one therapy, and they mean the same thing.

-
It depends what you are working on. Some people come for a specific issue and finish within three to four months. Others stay longer because the space is valuable in itself. Most start weekly and move to every other week as things settle. There is no minimum commitment.
-
Individual therapy is one-to-one work focused on you, your patterns and your goals. Couples counseling involves both partners and focuses on the relationship between you. Some people do both, either at the same time or one after the other. [Read about couples counseling.]
-
Mostly your therapist listening. They will ask what brings you in, a little about your history, and what you would like to be different. You will not be asked to talk about anything you are not ready for. By the end you will have a sense of how you will work together.
-
No. Plenty of people come to therapy without a diagnosis and without a specific problem to name. Feeling stuck, flat or overwhelmed is a perfectly good reason to book. If a diagnosis becomes relevant, your therapist will talk it through with you.
-
Yes. We offer video sessions with the same licensed therapists across the whole of Texas. Sessions are the same length as in-person appointments and are covered by most insurance plans at the same rate. You can switch between online and in-person whenever it suits you.
-
If something in your life has been harder than it should be for a while, and talking to friends or family has not shifted it, therapy is worth trying. A first session is a low-commitment way to find out. You are not signing up for anything long term.
-
Tell us and we will match you with someone else. Fit matters more than almost anything else in therapy, and it is not a reflection on you or on them. There is no awkwardness in asking.
-
Most clients have a first session within a week. We keep our practice small on purpose, which means we do not run a waitlist.
