Anger Management Therapy in Houston and Across Texas
For when the way you react has stopped matching who you want to be.
Most people who come to us for anger management are not angry people. They are people who lost their temper in a way that frightened them, or who keep having the same argument at home, or who were asked to get help by someone whose opinion matters to them.
ThinkSpot Therapy provides anger management counseling for adults in Houston and online across Texas. Most major insurance accepted, and no waitlist.

Anger management is not only for people who have done something serious. Most of the people we see are somewhere in the middle of a pattern they have noticed and want to change.
You Might Recognize Some of This
Being told. Your partner has asked. Your manager has raised it. Someone you trust said something you have not been able to stop thinking about.
The same argument, escalating. You know how it starts and you know how it ends, and knowing does not seem to stop it.
The gap between the reaction and the trigger. Something small happens and the response that comes out is much bigger than the thing that caused it.
The afterwards. Apologizing again. Watching someone go quiet. The specific weight of having said something you cannot take back.
Anger you keep in. Not everyone shouts. Some people go cold, withdraw, or hold it until it comes out somewhere it does not belong. That counts too.
Something that frightened you. You reacted in a way that was out of character and you have been uneasy about it since.
If you are not sure whether what you are experiencing is bad enough to be worth doing something about, that question is one of the most common things people bring to a first session. You do not need to have reached a crisis. Noticing a pattern is enough.
What Anger Management Therapy Actually Involves
It is one-to-one work with a licensed therapist, not a class and not a lecture.
Sessions run 53-60 minutes.
It starts with what is underneath. Anger is almost always sitting on top of something else, usually stress, exhaustion, hurt, fear or a feeling of not being heard. Working on the anger alone rarely holds. Working on what is driving it does.
You map your own pattern. Most people's anger follows a sequence they have never looked at directly. What situations, what time of day, what state you were already in beforehand. Once you can see the sequence, you can interrupt it earlier.
You build specific skills. Recognizing the physical signs before the thought catches up. Stepping out of a conversation without it becoming a walkout. Coming back afterwards and repairing rather than letting it settle unresolved.
You work on the aftermath too. For a lot of people the damage is less about the moment and more about what happens in the days after. That is workable.
How long it takes. Most people come weekly at first. Many notice a difference within six to eight sessions, though it depends on how long the pattern has been in place. Some finish within a few months. Others continue because other things surface once the anger settles, which is common.
Nobody is going to tell you that you are a bad person.
That is not what this is.
Anger Management in Houston
Our Houston office serves the Uptown and Galleria area and greater Houston.
5718 Westheimer Rd, Suite 1000, Houston, TX 77057
Monday - Friday 8AM - 8PM | By Appointment Only | (469) 701-0443 | Free on-site parking
Sessions run 53-60 minutes with the same therapists and the same approach as our online sessions. If a particular week makes getting to the office difficult, you can switch to video and back without changing therapist.
We also see clients at our Plano office, serving the Dallas area.
Online Anger Management Anywhere in Texas
We work with clients by video across the whole state, including Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and Fort Worth.
For anger management specifically, a lot of people prefer it. There is no waiting room and nobody to run into. If part of what has kept you from getting help is not wanting anyone to know you are getting it, that is a completely reasonable concern and online sessions solve it.
Sessions run the same length as in-person appointments and are covered by most insurance plans at the same rate.
How We Work
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Identifying the thoughts that turn an irritation into a reaction, and learning to interrupt that chain earlier. The most researched approach for anger.
Emotional regulation skills. Practical techniques for the moment itself, and for the twenty minutes before it, which is usually where the useful work happens.
Trigger and pattern mapping. Understanding your own sequence rather than working from a generic model of anger.
Somatic awareness. Anger shows up in the body before it reaches the thinking. Learning to notice it earlier gives you more room to choose.
Communication and repair. How to raise something difficult without it escalating, and how to repair afterwards when it does.
Underlying work where it applies. Where anger is connected to anxiety, depression or past trauma, we work with that too rather than treating the anger in isolation.
Our therapists stay, so you build this work with one person who knows your history.
When Anger Is Affecting Your Relationship
A lot of people come to us because of what their anger is doing at home rather than because of the anger itself.
That can be worked on individually, and often that is the right starting point. Sometimes it works better alongside couples counseling, particularly where both of you are caught in a pattern rather than one person reacting and the other absorbing it.
If your partner has asked you to get help, coming in on your own is a completely legitimate way to start. You do not need them present, and you do not need their agreement.
Court-Ordered Anger Management
We provide anger management therapy rather than a certified court-mandated program, and we do not issue completion certificates for court purposes.
If you have been ordered to complete a specific program, check the exact requirements with your attorney or probation officer first, since courts often specify an approved provider and a set number of hours.
If you are dealing with the situation that led to the order and want to work on it properly rather than just complete a requirement, that is exactly what we do, and we are glad to help.

Yes, for most people who engage with it. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy has strong research support for anger, and many people notice a difference within six to eight sessions. It works best when you are there because you want to change something rather than only because you were told to.

If someone close to you has raised it, that is usually worth taking seriously, even if you do not agree with how they put it. A first session is a low-commitment way to find out. Plenty of people come in unsure and leave with a clearer picture either way.
-
Mostly your therapist listening. They will ask what has been happening, when it tends to happen, and what you would like to be different. You will not be lectured or told you are a bad person. By the end you will have a sense of the pattern and how you would work on it.
-
If it is affecting your relationships, your work, or how you feel about yourself, it is worth addressing. You do not need to have reached a crisis. Most people who come to us have noticed a pattern rather than experienced a single serious incident.

Usually yes, where it is provided as therapy by a licensed clinician. Coverage depends on your specific plan, and we verify your benefits before your first session. Employee Assistance Programs often cover a set number of sessions in full.
